Jiaotong University is one of the earliest universities in China.In 1896, Nanyang Public University-which was set up by Chinese people in Chinese modern history was born. The establishment of Nanyang Public University was the leader of Chinese modern higher education and universities of many subjects such as science, engineering, management and art. Later, in 1921, it was renamed Jiaotong University. After new China was founded, Jiaotong University entered new stage of historic development. In 1956, in order to be adaptable to the need of economic development, change the unreasonable distribution of institutions of higher leanings left over by the old China, the State Council decided to move Jiaotong University from Shanghai to Xi'an. Under the care of our dear preunier Zhou Enlai, and the leadership of president pengkang, the main body of Jiaotong University moved to Xi'an in 1956. After 1957, Jiaotong University consisted of Xi'an part and Shanghai part for some time. In 1956, the State Council decided that Xi'an part and Shanghai part of Jiaotong University should set up university separately. Xi'an part of Jiaotong University was renamed Xi'an Jiaotong University. Pengkang acted as the president of Xi'an Jiaotong University.For 44 years after the university was moved, the Party, government, Shaanxi province and Xi'an city have given great care and support to Xi'an Jiaotong University.

In 1959, Xi'an Jiaotong University was decided to be one of the first batch of national key universities by the central committee of the communist party. During the periods of "the Seventh Five-year Plan" and "the Eighth Five-year Plan", it was listed as one of 5 universities of national key constriction projects. During "the Ninth Five- year Plan", it was chosen by China as one of 7 universities of first batch of implementing "211 project" construction. In 1999, it was determined to be the only university in the middle and west region of China that chose the target of facing the education reconstruction action plan in the 21st century and building world famous high-level university. On April 17, 2000, approved by the State Council, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Medical University and Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics were merged smoothly and the new Xi'an Jiaotong University was formed.

Xi'an Jiaotong University has a long history and school-running tradition. It has good reputation at home and abroad. It has formed its own obvious school-running feature and good school morale in the school-running history of more than 100 years and it trained a great batch of social ridge beam talents such as outstanding politicians, scientists and engineering experts for the boom and prosperity of China such as the hero Baiyayu in Xinhai Revolution, all powerful nation protecting general Cai'e, Hou Shaoqiu in Great Revolution, one of the7 famous nation saving gentlemen Zou Taofen and revolutionary Lu Dingyi. Now leaders of our party and government Jiang Zemin, Ding Guangeng, Jiang Zhenghua and outstanding scientists Qian Xuesen and Mao Yisheng and over 100 thousand of alumni have made great contribution to the construction of motherland and the progress of human society. After over 60 years of hard undertaking and unremitting efforts,

Xi'an Medical University had trained over 60 thousand of talents for the medical business of China, especially the northwest region. After 40 years of school-running process, Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economic had trained over 30 thousand of financial talents for Chinese financial cause. After merger of the three, the new Xi'an Jiaotong University has over 170thousand of alumni. They are valuable wealth of Xi'an Jiaotong University and the important power to create first-rate university in the world.

After merger of the three, the alumni team of new Xi'an Jiaotong University has been expanded continually. It contributes its power to strengthening the contact, unity and cooperation between the alumni and Alma mater and between the alumni, carrying forward the excellent tradition of Xi'an Jiaotong University, reconstructing China together, intensifying the friendship among the people of each country, the development of Shaanxi and the reform and development of Alma mater:

1. Our association is named "the General Alumni Association of Xi'an Jiaotong University" The members of our association are the alumni of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Medical University and Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics.
2. The aim of our association is to strengthen the contact, unity and cooperation between alumni and Alma mater and between alumni, carry forward the excellent tradition of Xi'an Jiaotong University, reconstruct China together, intensify the friendship among the people of each country and contribute power to the development of Shaanxi and Alma mater.
3. The tasks of the general association: to communicate the liaison between the alumni and between alumni and Alma mater, bring the intellectual advantage and extensive influence of the alumni at home and abroad into play and make contribution to the development of Alma mater, the reunification and modernization construction of China and the economy of Shaanxi and social development.
4. Organizational institution: the head of our association is acted by the president of Xi'an Jiaotong university. The secretary-general is acted by director of alumni liaison office. The office of the general association is in Xi'an Jiaotong University.
5. Activity fund: the activity fund of the general association is raised by the funding of Alma mater, donation of alumni and other means. It has set up alumni fund and supports all the activities of the general alumni association.
