Network Center
Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) Network Center was founded in April 1996, based on the former Computing Center (1979-1996). XJTUINC is responsible for the construction and operation of campus computer network, including the infrastructure and public information system. XJTUINC has a staff of 20, and 3 departments: Office, Network Operation and Public Information. XJTUINC is also the northwest node of China Education and Research Network (CERNET), provide high bandwidth connections to the universities and institutes in north west China.
The campus network project began in 1994 with a FDDI backbone and fiber connections to the main buildings, the network is also connected to Internet through CERNET.
From 1997 to 2002, the campus network has been growing, updated with newest technology and equipments. So far, the network has 95 kilometer fiber connections to all the buildings within the campus (including students' dormitories) and to all the faculty's living area. The network has a Giga Ethernet backbone, dedicated 10Mb/100Mb bandwidth to desktop, and more than 26,000 computers. VOIP,wireless access,VOD and multicast are all supported, the Internet connection bandwidth is 1100Mb.
In the near future, the campus network will upgrade its core switch and network storage systems to support more advanced applications and more users.
XJTUINC has also developed many network management tools to enhance the reliability of network, and provide better services to all users. XJTUINC has a nice surrounding and facilities, the total working area exceeds 2270sq.m., including two main computer rooms, three student computer labs, and a multi-function meeting room, which can hold more than 100 people.
